Kiamwangi is a bright, clean AA selection with complex fruited highlights, and a pristine acidic impression. The ground coffee had a tropical accent of pineapple, with notes of pie filling, like peaches cooked with raw brown sugars. I found the wet aroma had dried fruit notes, like aromatic stone fruits, along with a red berry note that brought out a winey-fruit accent. "Wine" was the descriptor we came back to in terms of acidity, with both freshness in flavor and a slight puckering aspect. The cup had intense citrus flavors at City roast level, like grabby pink grapefruit, and lemon peel zest. It also showed a delicate, tea-like side, with hint of rose hips and cranberry tea. There was also a slight floral aroma that came into focus as the coffee cooled off some, which added to the delicate cup qualities. This is definitely a powerful cup that shows fantastic at the lighter end of the roast spectrum, and offers what we think of as a "classic" Kenya Nyeri cup profile that ends with a stunning finish too.

The Kiamwangi Factory operates under the umbrella of Iria-Ini Farmer's Cooperative Society ("FCS") in Nyeri, a society that has been in operation since the mid-1950's. The wet mill sits at just under 1800 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Kenya. "Factories" are essentially small washing stations aligned with a particular "society" in Kenya, what we would call a "cooperative". In this case, the cooperative society is serving more than 700 farmers in the region. We return to the societies who seem to regularly produce some of the best Kenya coffees, and each year we come across societies that are new to us as well. This is an AA outturn, which means the beans are screened to separate out the largest coffee that measure 17-19 1/64ths of an inch. It's not always a sign of superior cup quality, but are generally given extra care in the dry milling phase and commands a much higher price.
