Guatemala is loaded with providence, as well as coffee farms named La Providencia. Finca La Providencia Atitlán is different than the La Providencia from Huehuetenango district in the north, a coffee we offered last year. It was recently purchased by Juan Pira and is undergoing renovation of older trees and overgrown shade. The farm is located near Santiago, Lake Atitlan in Solala department of Guatemala. Average altitude is 1575 meters, planted with Caturra as well as some Villa Sarchi cultivar from Costa Rica. This coffee is part of our Farm Gate pricing program.
The aromatics have tons of sweet fruit, perfumed with ripe pineapple and cherry. The wet aroma hints at the raisin and apple aspects found in the cup flavor, as well as dark honey. The cup has syrupy fruit flavors, a fresh, ripe pineapple brightness, crisp and intensely sweet. The finish has cocao nibs with a sweet raw tobacco emerging in the aftertaste. Coffees from the area of Lake Atitlan can be too fruity sometimes, a pulpy, over-ripe fruit. But La Providencia Atitlán is the perfect example of a sweet, clean fruited coffee, marked by a clean and transparent flavor profile.
