The farm of Concepcion Buena Vista is located in the region of Chimaltenango, right in between the city of Antigua and Lake Atitlan. With Volcan de Fuego bordering Chimaltenango, this tectonically active region has high altitude, and Buena Vista sits at right around 1700 meters above sea level. The farm has been a part of the Solano family for three generations, and grown from a small plot of land to the current 100 hectares, all planted in Bourbon. This is a fully washed coffee, and the coffee is carted down to Antigua where it is milled  and prepared for export at Bella Vista mill at the edge of town. We were taken by the balanced cup when roasted light and dark and the level of sweetness ranks in the highest tier of Guatemalas we bought this last season (9.0!).

With a balance of bitter and sweet tones and mild to moderate acidity, this coffee from Buena Vista has the makings of a classic-toned espresso and crowd pleasing coffee. Flavor notes of buttery caramels, toffee and honey make for a sweetness that rates very high (9.0), unrestrained in lighter roasts and without much of the bittering roast flavors that come at Full City. A subtle dried green apple note comes into view as the coffee cools off some and acidity at City/City+ has characteristics of fruit juice. Full City roasts color in hefty dark chocolate characteristics, with notes of dried fruit, like dark chocolate-covered dried pear. Body is milky as well which lends to reverberating flavors in the finish. A rounded coffee at almost any roast level (up to Full City+).
