Ethiopia Yirga Cheffe Teklu Chele'lektu

Honeyed, and with sweet citrus juice notes like orange juice and lemonade - especially when cool, lots of sweet lemon. Citric acidity adds a nice snap to the profile. Fruited notes flourish at City+ roast with apricot, white peach, and Rainier cherry. Closer to FC brings out tropical fruits and also a much creamier body. This is one of the 'sweet from beginning to end' coffees, and the finish is clean, and goes to a slight hibiscus tea flavor. Also an intense SO espresso. City to Full City.

Roast Recommendations City to City+ is the best, brightest, sweetest cup. Darker, Full City roasts are nice too with tropical fruit - great as SO espresso.

We were very excited to receive more great samples from this washing station in Chele'lektu this year; the cup quality is phenomenal. This lot is made up of several small lots from around the town of Chele'lektu in the Kochore Woreda of Yirga Cheffe. Kochore has produced some of my favorite Yirga Cheffe coffees in the past, with a highly aromatic cup and intense, lively brightness. I noticed on my visits to the area that many of the more remote locations from the main Southern road toward Hagare Maryam have the old, heirloom Yirga Cheffe cultivars in production. This lot was prepared to Grade 1 standards, and the altitudes of area farms range from 1800 to 2000+ meters, with approximately 600 small-holder farmers contributing to this lot. It's also worth mentioning for those of you with grid-drum roasters (Behmore, etc), there are some 14 screen beans in here that will fall through the screen. Not impossible to roast, just be aware that there will be a very minor loss on the inside of your roaster.
"Beautiful" only begins to describe this coffee's profile. It's deeply sweet and with subtle top notes adding complexity and elegance. Light roasts have perfumed florals and passion fruit. A scent of browning sugar is bolstered with roast and at Full City sweetness is bolstered. Hot water brings up a smell of green melon in the steam, with a strong backbone of panella sugar. The coffee crust that forms at the top of the glass is so sweet it smells like coffee cake crust - brown sugar, cinnamon, and some raisin. The break is so floral, with a scent of jasmine blossom. The cup has amazing sweetness and body, and brews beautifully. City to City+ roasts are honeyed, and have sweet citrus juice notes like orange juice and lemonade - especially when cool, lots of sweet lemon. The brightness, too, is very citrus-like and adds a nice snap to the profile. Fruited note flourish at City+ roast with apricot, white peach, and cherry. Roasting closer to full city brings out a more tropical fruits side and also brings about a much creamier body. This is one of the 'sweet from beginning to end' coffees, and the finish is clean, and goes to a slight hibiscus tea flavor. Also an intense SO espresso.
