Fazenda Junqueira Reis sits in the Mantiqueira mountains, South of Minas Gerais region. It's a collaboration of sorts with Rinaldo Junqueira, but the Ferraz Reis family operates the 26 hectare farm. The greater Carmo de Minas region is well suited for growing coffee with mountainous topography and ideal microclimates. Fazenda JR sits at an average of 1200 meters and is planted in Bourbon and Catuai. They have a wet mill onsite and coffee is both patio and machine dried. Reis has produced top 10 COE pulp natural and natural coffees, and this particular lot is a pulp natural preparation.
The dry fragrance has a sweet scent of almond brittle candy, caramelized butter and sugar sprinkled with roasted almond. Hot water brings on a scent of brown sugar and candied pecan, and a smell of roasted barley comes up in the steam. At City+, the flavor goes between dark sugars and roasted nuts and grains. There's notes of Umami tea, and dried peach, and a bittersweet cacao note builds with roast. Full City roasts have hefty body and sweetness, a culmination of fruit and nut in the middle, and the finish is like fruited dark chocolate. Dark roasts will make a great single origin espresso too.
