About The Shrub

CoffeeShrub is simply a name we liked. We are Coffee Sourcerers, micro-sellers of coffee serving small shops that roast. We know a small shop needs a variety of offerings to keep customers interested in fresh-roasted, quality coffee. We know that a shop needs a variety of sources too, since buying every offering in full bag amounts is not always ideal. And we know that access to remarkable coffees can be difficult.

We sell green coffee in batches that equal roughly a bit less than 1/4 to 1/2 of a traditional jute bag packaged in Grain-Pro bags at amounts of 30 or 60lbs, as well as a 30lb nitrogen-flushed and vacuum packed option for coffees that you wish to maybe hold on to for a bit rather than use immediately. It is important to note that once a vac-pack is opened it does not have the same protective properties as a sealed pack. If you are not using this coffee all at once then the remaining coffee must be stored in another air-tight container. Grain-Pro bags can be opened and closed multiple times while maintaining a high level of protection. We either bring in all of our coffee in vacuum packs or Grain-Pro, or we transfer it to our own Grain-Pro bags or nitrogen flushed vac bags once it arrives. You have the convenience of thorough, descriptive reviews as a starting point for your own tasting notes, and relevant information about the farms including images that you can use to promote the coffee.

CoffeeShrub is an outgrowth of Sweet Maria's Coffee. In our travels for SM, we have found dedicated coffee farmers with great quality coffee needing a reliable buyer for their lots, one who will pay sustainable prices over the long term. And we have found our access to great coffees is perhaps larger than our home roasting audience can absorb. We can actually bring down our costs in importing and transit for SM and Shrub by buying slightly more. In a nutshell, that's the impetus for forming the Shrub.

The coffee reviews are authored primarily by Thompson Owen, with input and additional comments by Christopher Schooley, Josh Housh, Josh Schwartz, Maria Troy and Derek Gedalecia.

Please look over our coffees and see if any of these offerings would compliment your current list. If you have questions about specific coffees, you can try posting them in the comments section on the bottom of each coffees' page. This way you might be able to receive feedback not just from us, but possibly from other roasters as well.
