All Samples Cleared

Just got a big old box of samples from home base to start playing round with in the lab. Some of the new additions, and some yet to be named. I'll keep you posted, but be sure to check out the new Ethiopia Maduro and Nicaragua Java Longberry and also two other new offerings that are coming this week. Also, this is your last chance to grab some of the Luchadores and the Guatemala Pixcaya, get it while it's hot.

WRESTLEMANIA

Hey Folks, the El Salvador Los Luchadores will have its last bout in the ring on Wednesday January 20th. Luchadores is loaded with syrupy baked peaches and strawberry with a body that continues to expand with rest while maintaining its clarity. Be sure to pick some up before it's counted out.

Newness

Happy 2010 everyone. In the next few weeks we will be adding some new exciting coffees to our offering list. This week we are adding a new DP Ethiopia, the Ethiopia Organic Guji Sidamo Maduro. The Maduro in the name refers to the maturity of the fruit when it was harvested, deep crimson. The results are an incredibly rich and fruited cup.

Merriment

Happy Holidays to everybody. Thanks for helping to nurture this diminutive little shrub this year. We hope that everybody is enjoying some amazing coffees and sharing/selling them with/to your loved ones and friends. As noted on the front page, Shrub is closed for the holidays this week and all orders made through the holiday and the weekend with ship on Monday the 28th.

Tambaya and Montañita

I mentioned it in my last post, but I just wanted to highlight what an excellent pairing of coffees that I thought these two made. Despite having distinctive flavor characteristics (Montañita with it's muted melon and Fuji apple notes coupled with mild savory/herbal elements, Tambaya with its peach and white grape with balanced sweet cream), the mouthfeel of both these coffees created a marriage between them that really showcased what makes each one remarkable. I highly recommend picking these two up together and trying it out for yourself.

Slurp

I put together a cupping on Tuesday at a local Fort Collins roaster. It is always a challenge to put together a table for a new group. Is it better to choose a theme and show some coffees that are related in one way or another, or is it better to show as wide a variety as possible? I went with variety and brought the Brazil Fazenda Campos Altos Peaberry, El Salvador COE La Montañita Pacamara, Ethiopia DP Haile Selassie Sidamo, and Kenya AA Nyeri Tambaya.

Whatever's Clever

We are happy to announce that the Clever Coffee Dripper has arrived and is available for purchase and shipment. For those unfamiliar with this brewing device, it is a simple filtercone but with a stopper which allows your coffee to steep as in a Press Pot, and then drains when the dripper is placed on whatever you are brewing into. This brewing method gives you all of the control of traditional pour-over methods plus control over steeping times.

The International

We are excited to be sending out our first international order to Velvet Sunrise Coffee Roasters in Ontario. We have been working hard on our international shipping rates and we were able to send out this 90lb order for $85.19, so that's just under a dollar a pound. We are talking with some potential customers in Taipei and are hopeful to start sending shrub coffees all over the globe soon.

Additions and Subtractions

In the interest of keeping our offering list dynamic we will be removing a coffee from shrub this Friday, December 4th. The Brazil Daterra Sweet Yellow will take a bow, an amazing and complex coffee that continues to really impress us, and that's why we want to make sure to let anyone who might be interested in this coffee know that they still have a few more days to check it out. When making adjustments to our offerings, we will be sure to give notice so that folks can still get it while they can.

New Shrub Coffees

We have some new shrub offerings lined up just around the corner. We want to keep the list exciting and dynamic and we feel that you're really gonna dig the new coffees. Some coffees will move from the list so if there's something that you've been eye-balling then now is the time, but rest assured that we will give fair warning before anything goes.
